Generous Heart

Overheard at breakfast this morning from Kid #1 to Kid #2:
Kid #1: "Hey, Daddy and I are making you a dollhouse that is a castle too out of wood we bought from Home Depot last night."
Kid #2: "Wow, that's so cool."
Kid #1: "And it cost us $92 dollars so you better like it!"
Pretty funny, huh? I like to think about this as "Threatening Generosity"!
God bless,
Mary

Join Me for Tea

Can anyone out there in blog world take a guess as to what came into my teacup as I was pouring some hot water from the tea kettle for my afternoon cup of tea...ya know that little 'kick' we need to get us through the next few hours ?!
Go ahead, take a look...then take a guess- be creative-it's a hard one~! Who knows...There might even be a prize for the one who guesses totally 100% right! (well, maybe...)
(Hint Hint: My 22 month old was just playing with the tea kettle last night...I know, people, don't badger me on this one...he just needed something to keep him quiet and STILL and the kettle was doing it! So, maybe I was due this cup of tea afterall...)

Life is just not exciting enough...argh!
God bless,
Mary

Here is Thumbs Up to Kid #1~! Look at these very cool K'nex creations that he got for Christmas-done in very short time, I might add. Who knows where he gets this talent?! What a gift he has, what an engineer in the making (and a Saint in the making too!)

Well done, my "numb-a- won -son"! I Love ya! Love, Mom

Merry Christmas!!!

From our family: Merry Christmas to you and your families!

I have missed blogging due to the busy life of the last few days. Prep for Christmas, Christmas eve, actual Christmas day, then the days following Christmas of where to put what and what to get rid of. Over Advent, we did go through lots of toys and clothes and gave them away to friends of to goodwill. It really helped to declutter our house but also to show the kids what a great feeling it is to be generous and how our Lord loves a generous heart. I have to say that they really enjoy giving their things away except for a few things for a few little ones that will remain nameless! It is a hard thing to do- to let go of some sentimental items. It is hard for me to do-but what relief and what joy it does bring to others and to ourselves too. My hubby is so good at this- he says if he has not worn it in 6 months then he can give it away. Wow! I wish I was as disciplined as that. I am a bit of a pack rat, but have gotten better over the years- but then again...over the years came more kids w/more things! so...oh well!

Christmas Eve was great. The cheerio children were thrilled to pieces that it was actually here - the night that Santa would come! They realized it over breakfast when we took off a ring and there was only one ring left on our Advent counting rings of garland till Christmas. We enjoyed it with my in-laws to our house toting in lots of gifts. What smiles it brought my children and what great memories. I was very focused on keeping my eyes on Jesus, to keep Christ in Christmas and not get swept off my feet with all the gifts. I hope I did not fail on this!-Only God knows...

As our tradition goes (we also did this growing up)- we made cookies and decorated our Christmas tree. One of the gifts my in-laws got the kid was 'cookie dough play dough'. It was so much fun! The colors were so bright and ...well, it got everywhere! But it was really fun! :)
Along with it being a fun day, it was also a bit...uh, stressful! Life is funny, huh? The way we envision a special day to go can be so very different than how it turns out. However, everything worked out and it was perfect just the same, the way God wanted it to be.

This was our first year that the kids really did not want to go to sleep b/c of such excitement. At one point, Kid #3 ran into the kitchen, where I was and said:

"Oh, Mom, it's just you. I thought you were St. Nicholas, ya know, Santa? Well, if I hear him, I'm gonna come out and give him a big hug and then I'm gonna tackle him, Mom. I really am, ok?"

I was full of smiles. "Yes, dear, that is fine" and I gave him a tender hug and in hopes this memory will never fade. May he and the rest of my gang always be full of joy and excitment for Heaven as this one was for Christmas morning this year.

It was also so adorable to see Kid #2 aka Cheerio Child #2 pretending to sleep in her doorway and quickly looking and gasping at any sound she heard! It brought back so many memories and gave me such joy! :) Until ...it was getting later and later...we stayed up till after midnight (but with much consolation of all the other Moms and Dads doing the same thing! :)) This Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus stayed up -there was much work to do without little ones running around- clean the house for Christmas, presents to place under the tree, stockings to stuff, and of course Santa just had to eat the 5 cookies and drink the glass of milk that Kid #3 made certain was there.
Then Christmas morning, the kids pleasantly surprised Santa and Mrs. Claus...er..I mean, Mom and Dad, by 'sleeping in' till 6:30am! If anyone has early risers, you know that 6:30am is really sleeping in!!! ha ha! We were thrilled! The children got to open one big gift from Santa and also open their stockings.

They were so very excited to see these in their stockings:
Betcha can't guess who these are!!! These 6 fine friends have had plenty of visiting hours at our Nativity set with Mary and Joseph! They are a lovely addition to the manger and we surely have a one of a kind manger now!

We had to make it to 9:30am Mass and after a whirlwind to get all ready and myself done (why is it that I am always LAST to get ready and have to shower, dress and out the door in under 10 mins!??!?!) But we did it...sort of. My hubby took kid #5 who is 22 months old out to the van and in a matter of 2 mins, I hear my name yelled as loudly as can be, and I hear him running through the garage and up the stairs, swings open the door and is holding kid #5 -his little face all bloody, scraped and black and blue lip and eye. The poor little guy and Daddy slipped on black ice. Can you believe it? On Christmas morning nontheless?!

Later, we had 14 adults over and 7 children and we did it! The turkey was delicious and my dad's sweet potato pie did not catch on fire and burn with the big marshmallows on top! In fact, it was a real winner! We had enough wine and food and great company. My hubby and I agreed that we would love to host again...but not next year! :) We need a year off!

The most loved Christmas items this year were:

Kid #1- Leapster, K'nex and Lego set
Kid #2-Modest version of Barbie called: "Only Hearts Club" dolls- sold at Target (they are just awesome); and lil girl make up
Kid #3- Army/Bug sleeping bag that came with its own backpack, flashlight and water bottle; and yellow rain boots
Kid #4-"Little Mommy" real doll she named "Mary"
Kid #5- Sippy cups (Yeah! cheap too! :))
Kid #6-socks and his first bear
And Daddy...his favorites were long sleeve t-shirts; and Mystic Monk Coffee (9 trial sizes to choose his favorite). We made 3 of those trial coffees for our Christmas guests and they just LOVED that coffee! So many compliments. We like it too!
And me?!? Well, let me show you...
Isn't life grand? Just these 2 items can make any wife's heart melt- Yankee Candle w/smells of 'Christmas Cookie' and a "FlipGrill". I have no idea what the latter one is and have not yet opened it but it sounds more AMAZING than it looks and I am sure I will be posting some pics form using it soon!

Once again, Merry Christmas and God bless,
Mary

Christmas Quote

Here is an awesome quote I just found on the web- amazing reminder to Keep CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS!
Only 2 days to go!!!
-----
Here it is....by Sharon J. (Thank you Sharon!):
If I decorate my house perfectly with lovely plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights, and shiny glass balls, but do not show love to my family - I’m just another decorator. If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals, and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime, but do not show love to my family - I’m just another cook.If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home, and give all that I have to charity, but do not show love to my family - It profits me nothing. If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties, and sing in the choir’s cantata but do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.Love stops the cooking to hug the child.Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband.Love is kind, though harried and tired.Love doesn’t envy another home that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens.Love doesn’t yell at the kids to get out of the way.Love doesn’t give only to those who are able to give in return, but rejoices in giving to those who can’t.Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.Love never fails. Video games will break; pearl necklaces will be lost; golf clubs will rust. But giving the gift of love will endure.

God bless,
Mary

Jelly Buttons

Last night after taking a bath, cheerio child #3 says to me "Oh Mom, I am so cold. My hands are cold, my toes are cold, my brain is cold and even my jelly button is cold."
How cute! I laughed with pure delight! Oh how I love these kids!!!
traslation: jelly button=belly button

Recipe Anyone?

Is there such a thing as messing up just about the EASIEST recipe in the world ever?!?! It is SO easy that there is ONLY 3 items necessary: pretzels, yummy Hershey kisses and ..ta da...the oven. How could a mom with three little helpers mess up and ruin this super easy recipe?!
Let me tell you...instead of 275 degree oven, I started it at 300 degrees inching its way up to 350 degrees and why, you ask? I was waiting for the yummy Hershey kiss to melt. After waiting almost 15 mins and not melting yet as from what I saw OUTSIDE the oven, I thought this was a warning for me that just maybe I was doing something wrong-uhm..yeah, hello?!
So, calling my sister up frantically "What is going on, what did I do wrong?!?!" She fills me in on the CORRECT recipe directions- 275 degrees for 3-4 mins. That is it. Easy enough? I hastily took the 60 or so out of the oven, only to find out as I squished the M&M on top to smooth down the 'melted' chocolate, it crumbled all over. Each one crumbled. I was so not happy about this Christmas gift idea that needed to be sent out ASAP to arrive BEFORE Christmas. What a bummer, we were snowed in so no going out to replenish our supply and start over!
So, what is a mom to do about this? Nothing other than, say to your loving family that you need to clean up and change the sheets in your bedroom (uhm...or hide out in your bedroom with a bag full of incredibly dry, crunchy pretzels and evaporated dry chocolate! Yes, I am a total wimp to resist even dry chocolate. No sense in it going to waste!)
Only a mom who has 200 million things on her mind can pull this stunt off.
And that mom is me.
And I sure am glad I can laugh about it now.
God bless,
Mary

Quote of the day

"Let your faith inlove never waiver. Any suffering you are called to bear is ony a sign that you are being loved more than before."
----Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity

Wow, this is a tough one. I'll be meditating on this for a LONG time!

Just for Today (and maybe more...)

There are some things in life you just need to let go of. "Pick you fights" I am told. Here are a few of those "fights" I am in no shape to pick today:So, go ahead little buddy, dig in...yes, you can play with plastic bags and no, not on your head but as sacks? Yes! You bet. Yes, you 2 boys can play with water in 26 degrees outside and get this- without gloves! Yes, you can decorate our Christmas tree even though we do not have our lights on it yet.
...And then this happened... and off they go...
THANK YOU GOD for snow! The absolute perfect timing! God is so good!!! (please say a little prayer for my hubby driving home in it-it is snowing like a blizzard out there. thank you!)
God bless,
Mary

Quick Quiz for Cheerio Child #2 (age 6) just to make sure we're on the right track:

What is Advent? “It’s when you put your candles out-3 purple and 1 pink.”
What does advent mean? “We are waiting for Christmas.”
What is Christmas? “The children get presents under the Christmas tree from Santa.”

Not too bad, huh!?! Good thing we still have a week to go to get things straight, my dear.

It has been done! The dream has been realized…The Coupe is now a convertible. In a feat of engineering genius the Cheerio Children has redesigned the popular Coupe car.

Road and Track Magazine is calling it the greatest invention/modification in the history of the automotive world.

When asked what was their inspiration for a such a revolutionary design was the humble Cheerio Child # 4 said, “I only tired to break this toy like I’ve broken hundreds before…I never dreamed it would become so popular”.

Consequently, the Big Three automakers are no longer looking for the US tax payers to bail them out…they are now in talks with the Cheerio Children to redesign all their cars.

Thank you Cheerio Children…you guys are the greatest!

Watch out Jon and Kate plus 8

Watch out Jon and Kate plus 8- i got a better idea!
I know you've all seen that great show on TLC ...we don't have cable but I did happen to check out the TLC website http://tlc.discovery.com/ after peolpe were telling me all about it for the past 6 months. There is a side bar where they highlighted some clips from their show. It showed how Kate was cutting her kids' nails and how she kept a nail clipper in each room. Good idea...but...
Well, move over Kate- I got a better idea- a better solution! Be like me- carry around your nail clipper in your pocket along with a bunch of Q-Tips too! You get double the goop- dirty nails cleaned and end up with clean ears too! (Yes, just about every day I do this as routine: on goes my pants, in the pockets goes the nail clipper and Q-tips :) )
Man, when am I going to get paid for these good ideas?!

God bless,

Here We Go Again!!!

Well, it happened yet again for like the 500th time...
"Is that a daycare you have?" a nice older lady inquired.
"Nope, just my bunch, and yes, it is my van." I replied w/ a huge grin.

I've come to terms with others' awes or smirks. (Took a while!)
Well, lookie here everyone-Yes, they're all mine. No, I'm not running a daycare. No, I am not crazy. And yes indeed, my husband and I know what we are doing (we do it quite well, huh? ha ha)
...I'm just doing my part of God's Will-so, who can argue w/ the Big Boss????

God bless,

Advent 2008

Here are some random pics from our Advent season....only 10 more days left! What kind of Advent are you making yours to be?

Here is our loving sacrifices -the birthday gifts we are giving to Jesus-for His Birthday. Daily, we have been taking a sacrifice mission from our jar. Some of them are: make your bed without being asked; do someone else's chore without being noticed; say a special prayer for someone sick or poor; my favorite happens to be ... be Mommy's helper for the day :) etc... This has been very helpful for the children-so concrete and practical, and at times hard too but great learning tool! I have to say that it is VERY helpful for the adults too!!!

Here are the classics: snowflakes and counting garland of rings till Christmas. The kids love to see how short it is getting!!!

Lastly, here are the empty stockings ready to be filled in 10 days as we await the birth of our Lord Jesus! Let us pray for each other in these last 10 days of Advent.

God bless,
Mary

Blogger Nerd!

You know you are a blogger nerd when...
1. Your husband enthusiastically says to you... "You have to put this on your blog!"
and "This is so blog worthy!" (I know my kids will be saying the same soon too!)
2. You carry your camera along with you as your day enfolds (or you know EXACTLY where it is to capture that 'moment'!)

And yes, I have pics to share...that is a post for later :)
Any others you can think of? Do share!

Why I can easily be a vegetarian

Tonight, as I was preparing the chicken to be set on the table:

Kid #2 asks... "Mom, are those the legs?"
"Yes" I reply.
"Oh, I thought they might be its' hands."

Oh how gross! There are things we just don't talk about, my dear. This is surely one of them!

Happy St. Lucy Feast Day!

Today, Saturday, December 13th, 2008 is the Feast of St. Lucy!
We love St. Lucy in our family as she is very special to one of our children-kid#4. The tradition is, that the oldest girl in the family wears a white dress with a crimson sash and stockings, as well as a wreath crown with white lighted candles. Then, at dawn she would wake the rest of the family with hot steaming coffee and some type of sweet bread. Oh how I wish this could happen every day! :) In our family on this feast of St. Lucy, we will have the oldest girl, kid #2, set the table, make and serve breakfast to the rest of us. Since she is still so young, I will be her little helper and I am sure many other little helpers too :)

Lucy means "light" and she is the patron of eye troubles and blindness. Isn't this so true! -our kid #4 exudes such light to our family!
We are all agree that "She truly help us to be more holy". This statement came from kid #1 about a year ago. How sweet, huh?!
We love you kid #4!!! Thanks for being the 'light' in our lives and helping us to keep focused on the Light of the World!

Saint Lucy is invoked as the patron of eye problems... could it be possibly because her name suggests 'light.'?! Sometimes, she is portrayed holding two eyes in a dish. Not a sight that is very attractive but it sure is very intriguing to those boys! I am not yet sure how to do an official link without all this extra stuff...but here it is anyhow....it is a great resource on the wonderful story of St. Lucy:

http://www.domestic-church.com/CONTENT.DCC/19971201/SAINTS/STLUCY.HTM

Have a Happy St. Lucy day! I know we will! :)
God bless,
Mary

Christmas No Shop

So, here I am only 25 feet away from one of my favorite shops in all of history...Christmas Tree Shops. If you do not know of them or never been in one, you are missing out! Anyway, I had a doc appt and it was so close, I mean really really close to the doctor building... It took every bit of self control not to walk 25 feet and feel totally captivated by the smells of Christmas candles and the sights of Christmas lights and awesome DEALS...okay, so the real reason I did not go in- the sight of an extremely crowded parking lot and tons of people all over the place!
But, still let me tell you.. .it was not an easy act of denial, my friend. Happy Advent!
God bless,
Mary

Overflowing with Curiosity

I'm curious...how many times does the average house have an overflowing toliet? I mean, not that I am alluding to any child in particular doing anything specific here. Just wondering...

It'd be quite interesting if we got a poll going here, don't ya think!?

God bless,
Mary

Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!

Last month, my hubby and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary- Yeah! :) It was a wonderful day remembering to be very thankful for our Catholic Faith, our marriage, our love, our children...everything that makes our marriage so strong. We decided on (finally!) getting a new statue of the Blessed Mother. There were so many to choose from till I saw her... Our Lady of Guadalupe! She exudes such peace, such tender love. The kids love to look at her radiant colors with such awe. Even they know the special love our Lord has for her and that she draws us ever closer to her Son, Jesus. Now she has taken her spot on our mantle to be the constant reminder...

“Hear me and understand well, my son the least, that nothing should frighten or grieve you. Let not your heart be disturbed. Do not fear that sickness, nor any other sickness or anguish.

Am I not here, who is your Mother?

Are you not under my protection?

Am I not your health?

Are you not happily within my fold?

What else do you wish?

Do not grieve nor be disturbed by anything."

What powerful comforting words she spoke to Juan Diego!

Check out this picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe to the right...I have never seen one like this before! It is amazing- so beautiful. Here is the woman clothed with the sun, protecting the children of the world from the attacks of the nasty beast. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!

Pope Benedict XVI’s Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe :

Holy Mary, who under the title of Our Lady of Guadalupe are invoked as Mother by the men and women of Mexico and of Latin America, encouraged by the love that you inspire in us, we once again place our life in your motherly hands.
May you, who are present in these Vatican Gardens, hold sway in the hearts of all the mothers of the world and in our own heart. With great hope, we turn to you and trust in you.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Our Lady of Guadalupe, Pray for us.
His Holiness Benedict XVIPrayer before the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the Vatican gardens. May 11, 2005.

2 to Tango

I was just informed that my kid #1 is going to ask my kid #2 to dance. "I have to change my shirt, Mom." he says... runs away, comes back to get his shoes on...then off he goes to the den...
"May I have this dance?" he asks to kid #2.

Way too cute for just words. May it always be this way.
Promise me, pleeeeeeeeeeeease?!?!

God bless,
Mary

Live and love the moment #2

Another "moment to remember"...

The other morning as Kid #1 was glancing out our kitchen window watching as our trash men took our 3+ barrels of trash away….commented:
“Mom, the other people don’t have so much trash as us, they probably only have a few kids- I guess they are just getting started…”

Awe…pure innocence…..

This Family Tested-Mother Approved

One thing that I have been thinking so much of lately is....ta da...TOYS! With Christmas up and coming very very soon...I am tempted to buy so much that is out there pounding on my doors "Let me in!" they say. Well, it is one thing to just buy a toy but will it last in our family, in our house....uhm..longer than 12 hours?! (Yes, I know it's not all about the toys, people...but c'mon you know it's so fun! Yes, we do remember it is all about Jesus!)

If anyone out there works for a toy company that you need some kids to test toys to see if they like them, or if they break in uner 12 hours, please do email me.

I promise you that we will not disappoint you! I've got 6 kids under 8!

So, let's go Playskool, K'nex, Fisher-Price, Little Tykes, Step 2, Parents, Hasbro, LeapFrog, Melissa and Doug... go ahead, email me....ok?

I wonder if I will get this job....hum....
One can dream, right?

Why oh why?

Can someone please tell me why...

Why, oh why, do our little offspring insist on oatmeal with hot water...
only to ask to cool it down and for an ice cube 2 minutes later...
then WAIT! it is now 'too cold' ?!?

Live and love the moment

okay, I now know how this blogging can get a bit addictive! I have kept a few great moments from when my kids said some real funny things and here is one I found just hilarious:

After the baby finished his nursing session….

Kid #3 says “Mom! He did a REAL burp! ….Mom! He did a REAL burp!! … Good job little buddy!”

Then to his siblings: “Hey guys! The baby just did a REAL burp! Isn’t that cool?”

Welcome to manhood, er…I mean, boyhood, my dear baby #6!
You’ll love it here with your 3 brothers- you’ll fit right in!

Cheerios Do Fly! Yes, they do! In the real world of my home....they do!

I am going to attempt to do this blog thing. I read many other blogs and it has been on my heart for a while now to start one so here I am.

Here is a glimpse into my life as a mom to 1/2 dozen- 4 boys and 2 girls under age 8!

Yeah, I know...totally crazy! Well, come read along and you'll see :)

More later, off to wake up a little one from nap #1, make hot cocoa for the older 5, and soothe a crying toddler...
