There is something quite comical about little girls dressed in girly pink and purple, wearing skirts and being lined up for teams to be chosen. Then to hear those sweet innocent high pitched, squealey girly voices yell out "CHARGE! AHH!!! ARRRR!!!"
With brothers, all things are possible.
Haaaa haaaaa

Horse Hair Teeth
Weird title of this post, huh?
On Friday, one of my sons came up from the playroom to tell me something and all I heard was "Blah...blah...blah...horse hair...so I'm gonna brush my teeth."
My curiosity was peeked and I asked him again...this time I heard right:
"Sister said my breath smells like horse hair so I'm gonna brush my teeth."
HAA HAAA!!!
Now that's what I call motivation!!! HAAA HAAA!!!

Moms of boys should never boast
Seasoned Moms just know things...
I think I may just be starting to be one!!! :)
A minute ago, my 4 yr old son came upstairs asking for duct tape that my oldest son needed to tape up a box. (All 4 boys were downstairs.)
I ripped off 2 feet long of duct tape and handed it to him.
But as I handed it to him...I asked, a bit cautiously, "No one is in that box...right?"
"No, Mom, no one is in it."
Phew. Good.
See? I NEVER would have thought to ask that question a few years ago. Then again, I did not have 4 ACTIVE and CREATIVE BOYS either back then either! haa haa
Life is full of lessons!

OKAY, did I mention I have BOYS?!?! HA!!! HA!!!
I was just about to post this above and then my oldest son ran up asking for more duct tape and told me with great excitement that he was boxing up the 2 yr old boy but that he also put in '2 breathing holes so don't get worry, Mom". (WHAT?!!?!)
I guess I may never understand boys and that they will ALWAYS have something brewing that will make me shake my head, wrinkle my forehead in disbelief. Boys!!! :) Gotta love them.

Mary

Warmth
You know what warms my heart?
When one of my children compliments one of their siblings....without prompting them to!!!
I just heard "That's a nice picture!" from my 4 yr old little man to his 9 yr old sister after showing off her painting of a rainbow.
So sweet.
This is just one of many....Lord, let me relish in this and think of these moments often. It is truly THESE moments that I know you are honored and glorified. Thank you for my children. Amen.
God bless,
Mary

Chasing a 2 yr old
I haven't posted lately...sorry about that!
I have been busy running after a certain little 2 year old that is super cute *(Thank God!!!!)
but ....
OH MY GOODNESS!!!
He still has not taken a liking to his baby sister and likes to clobber her as well as pull each joint and squish her face. There is a house rule that we cannot put Little Lady down unless he is not around or if Momma is right there. If holding her, then get ready to be a body guard. My big kids are getting pretty good at this. Not that I am proud of the fact that they are good body guards! haaaa
Little Lady is 3 1/2 months now and I thought by now that things would have changed and actually realizes that she really is staying. Nope, not yet! Errrrr... A priest I know says that he is the one that will probably be a priest!!! If this is what I have to endure for his vocation, so be it, I suppose....but I am not having fun.
I mean, what is the point of a fenced in yard when he climbs over the fence??? I have it locked up w/a key but it does not matter.
He is an early riser--unlike myself. He even enjoys singing at this early time but his singing is more like screaming. Ay ay ay.....He asks and then tells me very loudly that he wants oatmeal or cheerios or whatever. He is ready to go go go very early around here. Let me get my coffee first, lil buddy...I have resorted to him watching a little show in these hours, super idea ...or so I thought. He is not old enough to really get the idea of sitting still and quiet. haa haaa!!!
I swear I need a babysitter JUST FOR HIM ALONE. No joke, it is sooooo true. One eye off of him for just 5 seconds can bring surprises you'd never dream of!!! He is something else, this 2 yr old...
On a positive note, did I mention he is really really REALLY cute? Yes, I know a mothers love goes beyond boundaries and she sees her children as the cutest, but seriously, this little guy is a head turner! :)
Did I also mention that he loves loves loves books? I am so glad he actually knows how to stay put for a minimal amount of time! He loves when I bring a huge bag full of library books home. At that point, at least I know I have a few minutes that I know exactly where he is :)
He is also good with his words and is easy to have a conversation with. It is worth the time to spend talking with someone when they are 2 years old!!! Oh, the stories he has and the words he uses and the faces he makes while he is trying to think of a word-so unbelievably cute!!! :)
One last thing to make sure you know how cute this stinker is...not that he is an all out crazy 2 yr old. (then again, maybe this list is more for me! haa haa LOL!!!)
He loves his biggest brother! He loves to ride on his shoulders. He loves it when big brother reads to him and plays trucks and blocks with him. I am so glad b/c that big brother sure is someone to be following-he is awesome too!
Anyway, I have not forgotten about my blog...it's just that I have running ragged around here chasing after my little priest.
Please say a prayer for me, if you will. A Prayer for greater sacrificial love for this child in particular, and for new ways of how to meet his needs. Thank you kindly!!!
God bless,
M

Livin' on the edge
Yesterday, our family went on a hike to a new forest park. It was one we were told was full of great hiking adventures. Since our family loves the outdoors and hiking is one of our top activities to do together, we couldn't wait to get there! :)
We decided on a path that was along side the big stream and of course my kids loved it! What kid wouldn't? I love the woods, the sounds of birds chirping or flying overhead. The sounds of crinkling leaves underfoot, the sounds of rushing water over rocks. So soothing and I am so glad we all enjoy this together.
On part of the hike, my hubby and I were getting nervous as we watched them ahead of us and the path got dangerously close to the water. At one point, we had to pull them aside to talk with them about getting too close to the edge and not knowing b/c one cannot see, if there is adequate support under what one is standing on or else it will cave in and drop and they'll fall in the water. A couple giggles resounded as that sounded pretty fun to them but then I reminded them that their younger siblings do not swim and could drown an that was the clincher-they got it and understood our point. Thank God!
It made me think about in a short amount of years, I will not be there to pull them back and warn them. I will have to trust and hope that they'll make the right decision, esp. when I am not looking. For right now, they have me to help them but not for long. This is the time of youth, of formation, and I pray that we can help them in the way God needs us to and that is pleasing to our Lord. Then, I'll have to let go and watch. But for now, I think I have a little more time. Thank you God for this time. Precious time.
God bless,
M

800th post~! Why Big Families rock!
Reasons why big families rock: :)
There are so many reasons but here are a few from the last few days):
More to come someday I have more time....
********I was asked this week how many kids I have and I almost slipped and said 6! haaa!! :) First time I've been asked and I happily responded 7 :)
She said "And you homeschool too? Wow, you must be so patient."
You get that response too? Well, I laughed out loud and said:
"Not really but I sure ask for it all the time."
So true. Just b/c us mommas of big families have lots of kidos it does not mean that we are so patient! haa haa LOL.
....But we have plenty of opportunities to practice it I guess :)
I think that 7 sure feels SO much mroe than 6 and I am getting used to thinking and realizing we fit that category of a "big family".
When does that start anyway...after that 2.1 kid mark? Who knows...
God bless and enjoy your weekend! I know I will-my 2 sisters (w/none of their kids) are coming to visit...just because...oh I love them! Plenty of wine, chick flicks and laughter w/my sisters...good times...I am so grateful we live near each other now (well, one is 4 hours away and one is 3 hours away-way closer than before!).
Thank you God for this gift of family- I am forever grateful.
There are so many reasons but here are a few from the last few days):
- There is always someone to play with or annoy
- If one does not want to play baseball, go play soccer w/another
- There are extra hands to make this Momma breakfast in bed for no reason at all...like this morning! ... for when I asked them they said "B/c your our Momma, that's why." I LOVE THESE KIDS! BTW, their breakfast was awesome, homemade waffles and fruit salad :)
- Extra hands make work light! (esp. when this Momma decides to totally rearrange our home-move bedrooms and make the old living room a play room and trying to make a pantry out of a closet b/c our kitchen is extremely small and everything else to make a big homeschooling family run smoothly...)
- Older siblings to hold a new baby so this Momma can actually take a shower or cook dinner.
- There is always someone to read a book to you
- The older kids make an obstacle course outside in the (dare I say?!) 70* weather for all the kids-so creative :)
- Big kids helping to put socks and shoes on their little buddies
- Bigger siblings wanting and willing to hold our new baby and burp her too! :)
- Someone to always crack a joke or make me laugh
- Never a dull moment-always keeping busy-never have to think or wonder if I am lazy or wasting my time :)
- Enough hands to push 3 carts to go food shopping at our food shopping outing last night-what a sight that was!!!!
- Many times you are asked by God to sacrifice, given the chance to give up selfishness and isn't that what life is all about? Sure is.
More to come someday I have more time....
