Sitting in the midst of the upcoming move in a few days and I am truly battling some negative thoughts that are overcoming me. I am having mixed feelings about this move. Maybe it is because it is a super big thing about to happen and that makes anyone feel uncertain right before it. I am sure I'll feel better once I am in it and settled. But, right now, I am a bit overwhelmed. I am trying to focus on "God will not test you beyond your strength. But also with that test, He will provide a way out so you may be able to bear it" passage-I did that from memory so it may not be perfectly on.
Anyway, my kids are going a bit nuts b/c we are basically living as though we are camping...but... we are not. So....lots of wide open space and lots of creative games of running around the house and kick ball, tag, soccer etc... We are hitting a bit of a plateau as in...it is not as fun as it was a few days ago!!!
I am about to pack up the rest of my food. Empty and clean out the refrigerator and freezer is on my list today. So much for yummy and nutritious food intake around here :) Oh well, that comes with moving I guess.
Bathrooms are last b/c who wants to deep clean a bathroom only for it to be messed up a few hours later? Surely not I! So...that is the last thing on my list to do.
Hubby painted 3 rooms these last few days and I wonder why we waited?!?! They look awesome! Now, my job is to make sure they are not scratched up or ruined or marked up with pens/crayons etc...
Thanks be to God for good neighbors. Everyone should have at least ONE good neighbor to depend on, right!?!? We sure will miss ours. They are a great Christian homeschooling family and I will truly miss my quick calls to see if they have an extra egg or tape or sugar or yeast or meat thermometer!!! :) Generosity is their top gig and they outdid us by letting us borrow their camping chairs, some folding chairs, folding table and even some toys to keep them kidos a tad bit occupied. I hope a new family that will take over this house will in turn bless them with such generosity.
My kids are all talking about what they will like the best and what they are looking forward to the most in our new house. The consent is that the long driveway is, BY FAR, the top of the list. They can't wait to get on their bikes and scooters and ride around freely. They can't wait to run and play outside anywhere they desire. The horse farm, which is our next door neighbors, is a big attraction too! Their excitement helps give much excitement in me, which is a good combatter for those negative thoughts rolling around my head.
I will continue to blog and hopefully add pics to keep you updated!
God bless your day,
Mary @ CHeerios

The Big Move Update
The big move.
Hopefully this is it and we can finally settle in what we hope to be our last home and put this moving every 2 year deal behind us.
That means packing. Lots of packing.
You see, in the last move, we had professional packers and movers use their expertise and I just sat and observed and loved every moment of it. Not this time, though. So, what am I thinking? Seriously! This packing is NOT just packing up boxes and putting them in a pile. Noway. It is MORE like "Do I need this? Why? or Why not? Who should I give it to? Goodwill? A friend?" It is more of a reorganization of my entire house contents.
This new home (which looks similar to The Waltons house--do you remember them? Yeah, showing my age...) which I love from the start is also a home that is particularly smaller in size than our previous 2 homes. Mind you, that also includes 4 additional children so.....we are purging as well. Getting rid of major items like dressers, desks, bunk beds that were about to break any day etc...
We made 3 runs to the dump with our van load of items. I had to part with a very special piece of furniture that holds so many memories. That was hard. It was my grandmothers' little kitchen table and chairs. It was not big and I thought we could find a place for it...but we couldn't. It just does not fit inside our new home. It has nowhere to go. So, off it went. Oh, and here is a plug for my grandmother, who is 99 years old! She is still tickin' away and did not want to celebrate a birthday party since she celebrated her 90th...until she turns 100 years old. As though, reaching 95 or 98 or 99 was not a reason to celebrate! Oh, those older grandmothers have been through so much-they are so strong. God bless her.
Anyway, back to packing. It is basically ALL ME PACKING ALL BY MYSELF with lots of kidos helping to pack...if you get my drift...helping. They are doing sort of okay...the older ones. But the younger ones make my life a bit interesting in learning patience and do-overs.
1 box packed....2 boxes unpacked....
Up till today, we were right on schedule with our school work, which is a pleasant surprise. But not today, we will have to double up tomorrow's work to get it all done this week.
Without helpers around, I am resorting to alternative babysitters. Leapfrog Leapster (hey! at least its learning!) and little hand held Jumpstart video games (again, learning!) and then Pixtar too. I hid these away after finding them at the good ol' Thrift Store that I rave about! I got them all for under $5 each. Crazy good deals, huh!??!?! Well, this momma has to pack.
My hubby, where is my hubby? you ask? He is around. Yes, indeed. The huge blessing is allowing him to work a few days from home. It has actually worked out for us. WE are shocked! But I guess he is just used to loudness on a daily basis so he can learned how to concentrate with it all. The only tricky part is when he has a phone call to make. I am a super mean Momma then!!!
Christmas in October? Yup! In this house, it is. I am resorting to letting them watch Christmas classics, such as Rudolph etc....The classics from the 1950's of course.
Well, that is the update. The big move is over a week away and I am ready-mentally and emotionally but not physically ready! Please pray that we can get this all done in a timely manner-thank you so much!
God bless you,

Fire Recap
This week flew by for me, big time.
Monday we were sadly saying our goodbyes to my wonderful-awesome-totally crazy- energy filled b/c they actually sleep-fun and loud -sisters who came for the weekend. (hee hee)
How cool is that? They ditched their own husbands to join my hubby, me and our brood. Very cool, I must say.
So, did you notice my blog post about a, uhm...fire? (if not, click HERE. I'll wait...)
Well, those sisters of mine were here and thanks be to God that they were!!! We believe that WAS the reason they were to come up to visit us on this specific day and night and weekend. What a crazy and terrible thing we had to have happen. Let me explain...
Saturday night, all kids were sleeping, hubby was sleeping and even baby was asleep in her bassinet (which she does not do too often...she likes her Momma a whole lot). So, that leaves 3 sisters up talking, of course, with wine, of course and that 7 dip thingy except it was not 7 but more like 5 dip thingy. Anyway, it was super yummy (Thanks D!) and we were goofing off, chatting it up till late.
11:30pm to be exact.
Then sweet baby started crying and b/c the considerate (ha!) wife that I am, I did not want my hubby to wake up so up I ran to gather my little sweetie and soothe her back to sleep. As I am sitting in bed, I hear my sisters run, and I mean RUN up the stairs, knock quickly and abruptly at our bedroom door and say
"There is a fire...in your backyard!!!"
No time for me to think to look outside, I wholeheartedly believed what my sister was saying. Who wouldn't, right?
At that moment, our thoughts were totally focused on getting our 7 children out of our house, far away from our house and as I did that, I glanced back to see an orange/yellow glow behind our house and our neighbors house with very high flames (looked about 10-12 feet probably). I scurried them all into our van and awaited my hubby as he ran back inside to get a few things. I knew we were still too close to our house so I drove the van up the street a little bit. I was petrified, totally! I was shaking as I heard and saw my sisters screaming "FIRE!!!" to all our neighbors as well as banging on their doors to alert them. All of my kids were freaking out. One had her head hid between her knees with her ears covered, another one was shaking so badly it looked as if he was having a seizure, another one stared blankly straight ahead as if he was blind. The baby was still on my lap, ASLEEP THROUGH ALL THIS!!! Thank God she was sleeping! I don't know what I would have done if she was up crying and screaming. I started to bang on my horn and yelling "FIRE!" as well. I keep on honking my horn for, what felt like 5-10 mins. It was so scary. Then the fire trucks came, 5-6 fire trucks and about 30 or more fire fighters. It was quite the scene. It took them 2+ hours to calm the fire, put it out, and drench our whole backyard wooded area.
This is what it looked like once we got the "OK" to get back into our house and the firemen were putting away all their equipment and hoses. It was around 1:30am, I think.
I am so thankful the kids all were OK (except one who slept on our bedroom floor-I don't blame her! I am surprised they all were not in our bed!!! I was freaking out!) with going back to their own beds and went back to sleep.
I am thankful for those hardworking firemen who protected us and put out that nasty fire.
I am thankful for a sisters weekend and up late laughing and talking, for if we were not, there is NOWAY we would have known about this fire!
I am thankful for a very kind neighbor who called us and ended up leaving a message wondering if we were OK and if we needed to come to her home. She called at midnight and of course, we were not here to answer her call. Thank you God for good neighbors.
I am thankful that our other neighbors (well, at least some of them!) actually heard us beeping and yelling and banging on their doors. Some were not concerned in the slightest -why, I have no idea! Weird...
And I am thankful that we are all safe. Thank you God.
God bless,
M

Cabin fever, you too?
We've been hit with lots of CABIN FEVER over here lately...
...until this week! : )
Thanks be to God for sending us some nice seasonal weather-yahoo!
On Monday, Valentine's day (psst...happy 'love' day!), we went to a park in which all my kids wore t-shirts at! It really was that warm of 65*! We met up w/2 other homeschooling friends and had some red sprinkled Valentine cookies and us moms talked it up! It was great to chat and have some adult interaction-its been a while for me :)
Then Tuesday and Wednesday was just pure craziness-I have had so many thoughts on my mind about how to organize, how to clean, how to get ready for Spring. Of course having a little bitty baby that needs me in putting a bit of a twist on accomplishing those goals...but I keep trusting in God's will b/c this is where he needs me to be-to be focusing on her needs right now. All those other grand ideas can just sit and wait for me for a while-there is lots of love to be given to little baby here :)
Today we are headed out once again to a park-supposed to be around 60* again! And once again, thank You God for this weather. This Southern thing is pure delight for this Momma, who knows fresh air is a GOOD thing for my kids ...and me!!! :)
Sorry to my Northern family and friends...this post was not to be a bragging post about our warmer weather. I am in shock and am so grateful for it-that's all :)
Time to start getting ready...since it takes me almost an hour to get ready to go anywhere these days! (and I am always late!!!--yet another thign to offer up to our Lord, I suppose!)
God bless,

Was that a tornado?
Last night, I woke up shaking and yelled to my hubby:
"Honey, WHAT IS THAT?!"
He bolted up, screamed, "Eeveryone downstairs! GO GO GO!!!"
I swear we were in the midst of a tornado! But I cannot find any news or weather clips about it anywhere!
I have never been in a tornado but I swear it was one last night.
It was 12:30ish and I heard the wind begin to blow SO loudly; it was raining but then it was pouring SO loudly. It sounded like tree limbs and baseballs were being thrown at our windows within seconds!
For sure, one of my TOP 3 scariest moments in my life. Easily.
Our 2 yr old was in bed with us anyway(long story for another time...) and I basically threw him to my hubby as I ran down our hallway to get the other children up, yelling the whole time "Downstairs everyone!"
I grabbed the other children, (how did I do this being pregnant?!) and carried them as I was running throughout the house trying desperately to get downstairs to safety.
We all eventually gathered downstairs in the basement in an area where there are no windows, but our lights were on. We had no flashlight or radio so my portective husband quickly got a radio and plugged it in (not knowing for how long we'd have power).
My daughter, who is typically quiet, could not stop talking about how she heard the same things being thrown at her windows as well.
My hubby ran upstairs after a few minutes to get his laptop and we were sure there was something terrible going on outside. We wanted to know what it was and when it would stop.
Then it stopped.
It was quiet.
No rain, no wild wind, no hail or whatever we heard.
We waited and waited in this small area and checked our laptop weather updates continuously till we were not in a warning for 'severe weather'.
WHAT?! Severe weather? Are you kidding me? Was that all it was? Really?
To me, it was the worst I have seen mother nature behave. By far the scariest and I do not want to experience that one more time.
Oh my.
Thank You God for keeping us safe and letting us wake up to a mess of a backyard full of broken limbs and branches, full of leaves everywhere and now the sun is rising.
God bless,
M

Hey, Caught ya!
Catching frogs is a must in our family...our backyard, at the park or playground, on a hike...you name it, my kids will find a frog there...
Then my kid #3 loves to catch these beautiful creatures! These I really like...
But things were to change....and then....just yesterday...we spotted this....
There. Can you see him better now?
WOWeeeeee!
"Get a bucket!" I yelled to my kid #3!
"Hurry!"
Sure enough he did and kid #1 went for the catch.
Success!
Check out our big catch of the day!
He really is pretty cute, don't you think?
We were really glad it was not this kind of turtle...

A snapper turtle! YIKES!!!
What makes a playdate even better? Just before our friends (from our previous state! :)) left, I noticed that lil guy walking in our backyard-and we caught him! Needless to say, they enjoyed watching him immensely! Our first EVER box turtle! Now it's time for us to learn all about turtles...who knows what else we will find and catch in our backyard!
As you can easily tell, my kids really and I mean really enjoy catching all sorts of bugs and insects, butterflies, frogs and toads, and now turtles!
I have a feeling that SCIENCE CLASS is going to be REALLY COOL THIS YEAR!!!
We're off to a great start!!!
God bless,
Mary

Reality check
When I plan to go to DMV to get a new state license, I need to be ready to wait a long time.
A long time to see the information desk lady.
Just to have her tell me that I do not have the right documents.
So I go home and get another document.
She does not like that one either.
So I go home again and get something else.
She is not sure so she still gives me a number and I wait.
I wait a long time again.
Just to see the desk lady who reviews my documents.
She is not satisfied either.
So I go home really impatient.
God is teaching me major patience. Why? I wonder.
I wait 2 days and go back. I bring the document they asked for.
They do not like it.
I go home to get the last possible document and I am so not very happy at that point.
I go back to the DMV.
They like it! They approve them all!
I have a new lincense on its way!!!
I did declare to my hubby that I am not going back for any car registrations or ANYTHING!!!
God bless,
Mary

Quote of the day and my 6 yr old quote
"To lose ourselves in God is simply to give up our own will to Him. When a soul can truly say, 'Lord, I have no other will than Thine,' it is truly lost in God, and united to Him."
-St. Francis de Sales
Now for my 6 yr old quote. He says to me this morning during breakfast:
"So....Mom, when are we going home?"
EEEEK! My heart felt this one...and then this one too:
My 3 yr old chimes in:
"But, Mom...Pop Pop is there!"
Not anytime soon, my little sons.
God bless,
Mary

If you're wondering what I'm up to...
The movers came today! One day early! :)
We were really ready to stop living out of our sleeping bags and an air mattress for hubby and I. Thanks be to God that this new renatl house is 99% carpeted so that comforted me when feeling sort of bad that my kids were sleeping on the floor for a week and a day~! The baby (whose almost 2! in Sept!) was in a pack and play and he has had some on and off nights. Last night was that off night. Those pack and plays are great but a week and a day was enough for him, I think.
My kids were totally thrilled to pieces wehn they saw the truck pull up. They all did some happy dances :) Once they opened the back, they "ohh!" and "ahhh!" "Cool!" and "WOW!" .
I laughed and told the 2 men that are unloading our truck of junk...err, I mean stuff, that they can take the rest home or sell it or dump it on the side of the road! haaa haaaa.
It's amazing what you can do without.
Although, I am ready for real beds, more food, and more selection of toys. And of course bikes. Lots of bikes and ride on toys. Oh, and the swimgset:) haaaa haaa
One last thing. Were you wondering why I have not posted any pics lately? It seems that I am always having some trouble with the camera. I caannot download the pics b/c the button somehow mysteriously snapped off - the one that lets you view vs. take pics. Never dull around here. Never. Just you wait till I get a new camera or get that one fixed, I think every post will have a picture along with it!!!
God bless,

God bless,
Mary

Hello Hello Hello from the South!!!
I am sorry it has taken me so long to post anything. We did not have computer internet hookup access till recently and frankly, I have been so so busy!
Update: we have moved and being a southern gal has its perks. So many that I have jotted them down in on a loose piece of paper that I have somehow not lost! Go figure! :) LOL!
1. More men have held a door open for me in one week than 10 years up North.
2. There are plenty of choices of great Christian music at the local neighborhood library. AND there is a fantastic Christian radio station that has nothing bad in it. No bad commericals so you'd have to turn down or turn off the radio etc... It is fantastic and even my hubby is hooked on it too!
3. Homeschooling is just another way of schooling and way of life down here. I did not have to explain nor defend my decision to homeschool to the librarian that asked where our kids went to school as I signed them up for the summer reading program. In fact, it was the other way around! She praised me for it! Get that? True! I was so taken back, that I just stood there nodding my head and smiling as she went on and on about the perks of homeschooling!
4. I am commonly referred to as "Ma'am"; not so much the "Yes, ma'am" and "No, Ma'am" but just "Ma'am"...and I like it...a lot! :)
5. The first other Mother that I met was at the local neighborhood pool that we joined...(Right up the road~!) ALSO has 6 KIDS TOO!!! She does not homeschool as we do, but 6 kids!!! 2 of her boys are getting along w/my 2 older boys so it looks like a good match. In fact, we even mentioned getting together possibly sometime. She is very sweet and easy to talk to.
6. I have noticed in 9 out of 10 stores that I have been going to all week, that the workers, overall, pride themselves in their jobs. I mean, the cashier, the meat stocker, the grocery isle stocker, the brown bag packers, etc... Each gave the impression that they are doing the best they can do with the job they have. That really inspires me. They are not in a rush but have great eye contact and actually can hold a conversation. So much for my no eye-contact and stick to myself, don't talk to anyone type of northern attitude. (...Well, most northerners I must say. I hope I am not offending anyone but it's just what I have encountered and noticed in over 28 yrs up north.)
7. MANY have the gift of hospitality, to the fullest. As soon as you walk through the door of any store, you are immediately greeted with a smile and a happy greeting of good morning, good day or whatever. In fact, yesterday I went food shopping. Before I started, I bought a coffee and of course the cashier/coffee maker was so kind and nice and happy. He looked over to the previous older man that ordered before me and said "You have a great day, now!" and the older man looked at him and said "I sure will. I have not had a bad day in my life." And he was serious. Dead serious. I smiled at him but did not forget what he said. I hope I do not, ever. It sure means a lot.
I best go now.
Just posting to say hello and let you know that we are all well and so far, so good. God has a plan and we are trying our best to fulfill it, wherever it may be.
God bless,
Mary
